Laundress

Pockets
To save the honey and light
The inner soul, scents of nightfall
Flashlights burning with a candles glow
But flaming with starlight
Oh growing stems and fading green breath
Of mint secrets
Reaching into unconsciousness
Reaching into lifeless soil and peaceful rest
Bringing into color
A picture once in black and white
Clinging to dryer lint
Like dust to pit folds and starlets to letters
Written into lit coils and sold to the night
Humming with the brightness of orange and red cinders
Bringing heat to damp and wet clothes
Turning over to dry and remember
Surrendering to overwhelming righteousness
And stealing from empty pockets
Where I once jingled with loose change and rocks I guess
To bring like ringing bells
Animals falling over each other in a box
Clawing for freedom to save them from
The rabid fox
